Talismongering (Gathering as defined in Street Magic)

Harvesting and Talismongering (Gathering as defined in Street magic)

A rarely considered option is the preparation of land/territory towards specifically growing plant/herbal materials with the specific intent of harvesting for a Talismanic application.  It is possible to perform this action but it does however take time to do so.  Doing so does require something specific however.

Land.

For game purposes, the base measure of land is considered to be 1 Acre (approximately 40 meters on a side square).  Hydroponic and vertical facilities can preserve space, but they increase the difficulty by which the plants can develop.  Each Acre can produce a potential number of plant units equal to the primary agrarian's Intuition times their Magic.  For herbal plants (non bulk crops such as Corn, Tomatoes or Wheat), the amount of space is reduced by one-quarter (10 meters on a side square).

Growing Seasons (Times) for plants vary by plant species/family.  Most Herbal Plants have growing times that are measured in weeks.  Most crop-like plants are measured in months.  Larger plant families such as trees are measured in years.  Game-Masters who wish to simplify matters should use times as they see fit for their campaigns.

Premature harvesting may/may not be possible and again is up to the GM.  It is recommended that at the very least the harvesting (Gathering) threshold be increased by some number appropriate.  It is entirely possible to damage or even destroy harvests especially if they are harvested prematurely and/or a Glitch/Critical Glitch occurs.

Spell Design (Street Magic pg 158)

The mechanics for SR4.3H are slightly adjusted from what is found in the Street Magic book.  All spells begin with a Threshold of 8 for Sorcery and 12 for Metamancy.  The Threshold is then adjusted by the Drain Modifiers (Street Magic pg 163).  For standard spellcraft this number is added directly.  For metamantic spells, the drain modifier is doubled before applied to the base threshold.  The time interval is also adjusted.  For standard spellcraft, the time is 10 days.  For metamantic formulation, the time is 30 days.

Example 1 (Standard Spellcraft)

Spell Melt (from SM pg 164)

  • DV : (f/2)+2
  • Base Interval : 10 Days
  • Base Threshold : 8
  • Adjusted Interval : 12 Days
  • Adjusted Threshold : 10

Example 2 (Metamantic Formulation)

Gateway (SR4.3H)

  • DV : (F)+4
  • Base Interval : 30 Days
  • Base Threshold : 12
  • Adjusted Interval : 38 Days
  • Adjusted Threshold : 20

Hits generated in the test can be divided into two categories.
